What do I say when I cannot understand the previous shift's note?
Say what you did understand and ask one specific question about the rest: I cannot read this line. Is it 40 boxes or 14? Then read the note back to the writer or the supervisor. If nobody is available, treat the unclear line as unconfirmed and do not start the equipment.

When a note is unreadable, do not rewrite it from memory. Ask the writer to type the same line into the shift phone group, or to write it again in print, and keep both versions until the shift ends. Then add one line of your own underneath, for example 06:05 note checked with the writer, with your initials, so the next person can see that the line was confirmed and who confirmed it. If the writer has already gone home, photograph the page and send it to the supervisor with your question written next to it.
