Is it rude to write "I disagree" in an email?

Short answer
The words are not the problem; the missing context is.
The words are not the problem; the missing context is. I disagree on its own gives the reader a position with no basis and no next step, which is why it reads as blunt even when it is accurate. I disagree on the freeze, because the last release slipped nine days is the same position with the basis attached, and readers rarely call that rude. If you want to keep the phrase, keep it and attach the reason in the same sentence.
