Can I read notes in a video interview?
In most live video interviews, yes, and public guidance often suggests it: the National Careers Service recommends making notes and putting them somewhere visible. Two conditions matter.
In most live video interviews, yes, and public guidance often suggests it: the National Careers Service recommends making notes and putting them somewhere visible. Two conditions matter. Follow any instruction the recruiter sent, because some employers ask for a clear desk and some recorded formats forbid notes entirely. And keep the page to keywords beside the lens, since reading full sentences is visible on camera even when the page is not.
Print the page in a large font and number the keywords in the order you expect to use them. Test the camera first and check whether the page edge is in frame; if it is, move the page closer to the lens rather than lower. Keep a pen and a glass of water within reach, and turn the page only while the interviewer is speaking, never while you are.
