How can I practise talking to customers in English?

Nov 2, 2026
Short answer

Use your own work as the material. Take one real interaction from this week, write down the sentence you could not say, and rebuild it as an acknowledgement, an apology, a next step or a close.

Use your own work as the material. Take one real interaction from this week, write down the sentence you could not say, and rebuild it as an acknowledgement, an apology, a next step or a close. Then say it out loud with the real order number and deadline in it, because the sentence is the easy part and the pressure is the hard part. Fifteen minutes on one situation teaches more than an hour of switching topics.

Two additions make the drill stick. Record yourself on a phone answering three of the customer lines back to back, then listen only for the four checkpoints, because judging your grammar while you speak is exactly what makes agents speed up. Then keep one page of the sentences that failed twice and read it before each shift: the page should shrink month by month, and a page that does not shrink is telling you the problem is one specific move rather than general English.
