Should I pause an IELTS mock to look up a word?

Oct 19, 2026
Short answer

Decide what you are practicing. For an uninterrupted rehearsal, save the lookup for the review. If understanding the question requires help, stop and make it a learning exercise, then record that change in your notes. Both activities can be useful; describe the conditions accurately when comparing recordings rather than hiding the extra help.

If you need to stop to understand a question or learn a word, you can switch to a focused learning exercise. Note where that happened rather than describing the edited result as an uninterrupted mock. A solo recording can show what you said, but it cannot reproduce every choice a real examiner would make in an interview.
