How long is TOEIC Speaking Task 1?

Nov 4, 2026
Short answer

Each read-aloud question gives 45 seconds to prepare and 45 seconds to read, so one question occupies 90 seconds of test time and the pair occupies three minutes. The preparation clock starts when the text appears, and the recording starts when the narrator says "Begin reading aloud now."

Treat the pair as two separate attempts. Each text receives its own two ratings, so a weak first read is not carried into the second, and you can change plan between them: if the first read felt rushed, spend the next preparation marking the last sentence before anything else. A rushed final line is the most audible sign of reading for the clock rather than for the message.
