Can I write on the question paper during IELTS Listening?

Nov 4, 2026
Short answer

On paper, yes: you write answers on the question paper as you listen and transfer them to the answer sheet in the ten minutes at the end.

On paper, yes: you write answers on the question paper as you listen and transfer them to the answer sheet in the ten minutes at the end.

On computer there is no question paper: you type into the numbered box, a notes sheet is provided for your marks, and two minutes at the end replace the ten minutes of transfer.

On paper the answer sheet is the only thing marked, so a correct answer left on the question paper scores nothing: transfer as you go if you are slow, not only in the last ten minutes. On computer your typing is saved in the numbered box, and the notes sheet is not marked at all, so treat the codes as working paper and the screen as the answer.
