How many minutes do I get for each TOEIC Writing email?
Ten minutes per email, and how the rest of the writing section spends the other fifty minutes.
Ten minutes per email. Questions 6 and 7 of the TOEIC Writing test are both respond-to-a-written-request tasks, and ETS gives you 10 minutes to read the email and write your answer for each one.
The other writing questions run on different clocks. Questions 1 to 5, where you write one sentence about a picture using two supplied words, share 8 minutes for the whole part, and question 8, the opinion essay, allows 30 minutes. Added together they make up most of the roughly 60 minutes that ETS describes for the 8 questions.
For practice, divide the ten minutes into four blocks: about 90 seconds to read and underline the required items, 90 seconds to decide your content order, four and a half minutes to draft the whole email including the closing, and two and a half minutes to check. ETS also states that once you begin question 7 you cannot return to question 6, so time you leave unused inside one email is not time you can move to the other one.
