Does IELTS on computer give you a spell checker for Writing?
The published tool list covers a timer, note-taking, highlighting, adjustable display and a word count. A spell checker is not on it, so type as though every slip will be marked.
The published tool lists for IELTS on computer describe a timer, note-taking, highlighting, adjustable font size and colours, and a word count. A spell checker is not among the tools listed, so the practical assumption is that every typed spelling mistake reaches the examiner unmarked.
Two habits follow. First, sit your practice test with the spell checker in your word processor switched off, because a check that will not exist on the day trains the wrong reflex. Second, spend the last three minutes scanning for the five typed patterns that account for most slips: small words, apostrophes, a comma carrying a whole sentence, confused word forms and missing paragraph breaks.
