How long should I shadow the same clip?
Oct 28, 2026
Short answer
Two sessions with one clip is usually enough: the first teaches the timing, the second confirms it. After that a fresh clip of the same difficulty teaches more than a fifth repetition.
Two sessions is usually enough. The first pass teaches you the timing of the clip; the second confirms that you can still find it a day later. Beyond that, the clip stops offering new rhythm and you begin to recite it from memory, which is not the skill you are training.
If you want a rule, keep the clip until you can start within one beat of the speaker on the first listen of the day. Then move to a fresh clip of the same difficulty before you move up a rung.
